Deep Fried Indulgence - Cheesy Bread Rolls

In my opinion, and guess of many others, food is not just about taste. Don't get me wrong - of course it's about taste and much more. It's about living, reliving and creating a moment. Many a times you relive your childhood with your mom's freshly baked cake or your wife's love in her thai curry. So it's not just the taste of food that makes it special but the experience and the memory it brings or creates. And one such favourite memory of mine is indulging in deep fried snacks - mostly samosas, pakodas and rolls - while cuddling in a duvet in chilly winters with a hot cup of tea. Ahmm sheer bliss.

So when I saw the theme of "Deep Fried Snacks" by Tickling Plates it just gave me an

excuse to rush to kitchen and bring forth this easy comfort food in winters. Oh that makes me think this is an apt entry for Veggie Hut's "Winter Warmers". And just perfect for Divya's veggie/fruit of the month - potato event, started by Priya. Then what am I waiting for? Here it goes for all the lovely events. As an after thought, this also deserves an entry to the cooking4allseasons' breakfast mela event along with the Poha and Dhokla.

Cheese Bread Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:
Bread - 10 -12 slices (I prefer to use white bread of small size)

Oil for deep frying

Bread Crumbs - 1/4 cup (More or less)

Water in a bowl

For Filling: Boiled Vegetables- 2 cup (Boiled potatoes is the base of this dish. In addition I added peas, carrots, cauliflower. You can add your favourites)

Onions- 2 (finely chopped)

Ginger paste - 1 tsp

Green chillies - 1-2 chopped finely

Corinder - 2 tbsp (finely chopped)

Red chili powder- 2 tsp

Garam masala powder- 1 tsp

Salt - As per taste

Grated cheese - 1/2 cup ( I used Parmesan)

Method: Prepare filling by mashing all the vegetables nicely. Add cheese and all the other ingredients from the filling list. Taste and adjust seasoning, as per liking.

Heat oil in a deep frying pan.

Chop the sides of the bread (crust) and soak it in water, just for a second and immediately squeeze out all water with hand. Now pour a tbsp of filling in centre and make an oval ball of it.

Dip it in bread crumbs and set aside. Make such rolls of all the breads. (I love to use seasoned bread crumbs, since it adds so much of flavour, but you can use home made as well.)

Now deep fry few rolls at a time on medium high heat, until golden brown. Repeat this until all the rolls are fried.

Serve hot with mint-coriander dip or everyone's favourite - tomato ketchup and sit back and enjoy your favourite TV program.
